Born and raised in Detroit, MI, in 1993, Jovan Shabazz has always been driven by passion, perseverance, and the desire to leave a lasting legacy. From an early age, Jovan showed determination both on and off the field. He played three years for Osborn High School, making history, and completed his senior year at Roseville High School, graduating while continuing to pursue his athletic dreams.
Sports weren’t his only arena of excellence. In college, Jovan excelled not only in three varsity sports, but also became an active member of the chess club and college orchestra, embracing challenges that sharpened both mind and character.
After achieving entrepreneurial success in Minnesota, Jovan dedicated himself to helping the youth of North Minneapolis as a mentor, giving back to the community that shaped him. But his heart was always in Detroit. Returning to his hometown, Jovan set out to rebuild and create a legacy in the city that birthed him.
Growing up in Detroit wasn’t easy. Jovan faced losses and challenges, but he never lost faith. That resilience and unwavering belief in the power of time inspired him to create Shabazz Collection — a brand built on the philosophy that “Time is the most valuable investment you can have in life.”
In 2025, Jovan decided to design his own watch line, transforming a simple hobby of flipping watches on eBay and Poshmark into a full-fledged watch brand. Today, Shabazz Collection combines watch customization, watch supply, media, and collector services all in one Detroit-based company.
Jovan’s journey was further shaped by his experience working with Shinola, one of America’s most recognized watch and lifestyle brands. Shinola taught him that dreaming big is possible with patience, perseverance, and passion. With Shabazz Collection, Jovan brings that same energy to every timepiece, creating products that celebrate not just style, but the value of every moment.
